Masking
It gets kind of exhausting walking around with your superpowers, sometimes all you want is to go home, take off your superhero costume and rest your mind. It feels like you're a fraud most of the time because once you've completed the tasks you need to in your day, you are depleted of any motivation or energy to do the things you must to care for yourself. Most people don't understand the struggle it is, regardless of discipline, this is a struggle neurodivergents understand. That's why most of us revert to an addiction, a coping mechanism to pump dopamine into our system to achieve the things we otherwise wouldn't be able to trick our brains into doing.
A friend of mine recently quit vaping, he told me "it's not giving you dopamine," it's stealing it from you. I've never quite heard someone speak so truthfully about addiction, it's an ugly thing - because it feels like a slippery mountain you keep trying to climb but you keep slipping. I guess overcoming addiction means you gotta face yourself, once the mask is off - and questioning who you are within.
